Egerszólát

Egerszólát is located 12 km far from Eger on the north-west, at the meeting line of Mátra and Bükk Mountains. It is situated in the valley of Brook Rábca , between the Préda and Farkas Mountains. The Brook Szólat flows through the village and at its border.

Egerszólat may be reached on subordinate public roads from Eger. The closest railway station is in Tarnaszentmária, on the Kál-Bátonyterenye railway line.

The village was called Zowlat in 1248, and later Zolacin 1310. According to the certificates, Egerszólát was destroyed in 1552. It started to be repopulated between 1699-1701. Its signet is known from year 1734.

The baroque Church with cascade, four terraces and a tower was built in 1734, stands in the centre of the village. A statue erected for Saint John of Nepomuk was created at the end of 18th century. It can be seen along the road directs us to Tarnaszentmária. A Holy Trinity statue at the foot of the cemetery hill was created in the 19th Century.

Several mansions of nobles such as Vécsey-, Brezovay-, Ferenczy-, Beöthy- and Andránszky were built here in the past. Unfortunately plenty of them have already started to decay.
