Noszvaj


Noszvaj is located 11 km far from Eger, on the east boarder of the county. It may be reached easily from Eger and Mezőkövesd either by bus or car. Several monuments can be found in the centre of the village.

According to written documents, a church built in Roman style stood in the village in 1248 already became a Calvinist church in the second half of the 16th century. The church was demolished in 1928 and a wider, longer church was built with instead using the elements of the one taken down.

Turning right in front of the church we get to one of the most significant national monuments of the village. The Szepessy de la Motte Almásy castle and its outbuilding were built in copf style between 1774-1778 by János Povolay. The whole castle, with its exterior and interior ornaments, is a relatively intact monument with the characteristics of the era of Lewis the XVI’s. The castle, being a national monument, can be visited as a museum today. The Galasy castle was built in late eclectic style in 1900. It burnt down in 1953 and was rebuilt in 1959 again. It is situated between Noszvaj and Szomolya; the named by Hotel “Fenyves” according to direction signs. The cave- and cellar houses as the renewed Farmers’ House save the folk building technologies from the 19th Century, which operates as museum today.

Not only the peace of nature can be offered the visitors of Noszvaj, but a number of cultural programmess and events. One of them is Musical Nights of Summer, entertain our guests with musical traditions and folk music every year. The settlement plays an important role in Eger Wine Region, all great conditions are given to produce high standard, quality wines, such as numerous wineries, vineyards, fine nature and climate. Síkfőkút, beloved place of excursions and holiday resort, is located in the valley of Brook Kánya, is northward from Noszvaj.
