Maklár

Maklár is located in the middle-east area of the county, half way between Eger and Füzesabony. It may be reached from both towns by car within 10-15 minutes, however it is also easy to travel by train to get to the village. The life of the village had been determined by the closeness of Eger for centuries: the place was burnt by the Turks several times but time to time it became inhabited again.

The church of the village was built at the end of the 18th Century by Károly Eszterházy, - the Bishop of Eger - but unfortunately it was blown up by the German army in the Autumn of 1944. A new church was built in at the same place in 1848; which contains several elements of the destroyed one. The Szabó and Sumi mills are the national industrial monuments of the village. The second one is a water-mill which was built in the 18th Century.
