Kerecsend
Kerecsend is 12 km far from Eger on the South. The village can be reached from Budapest, Miskolc, Eger and Szolnok.
Those who want to get to Eger, choose their way crossing Kerecsend by coming down the M3 motorway, at Füzesabony. It is also reachable from Road 3, which is a slower but friendlier way. As it is an important village crossing over to the direction of several towns, more and more inns and restaurants alongside this major public road were built in the past years.. Next to the village, the Berek forest lies on 106 hectares can be found. The oldest tree of the forest is about 270 years old. The area is full of small games and birds – once it was the homeland of the „Kerecsen hawk”. The name of the village can be originated from this bird.
In the region, various unique types of oak trees grow. The speciality of the village is that the ancestors of its inhabitants arrived from the region of Rhine, however only the Catholics received permit for settling down. They became Hungarian by the end of the 19th century but preserved their traditions in their national costumes.
The Germans blew up the church of the village in 1944. Today’s roman - Catholic Church of the village was built in 1960. In front of the temple, the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands in the garden. The view of the village is nicely and properly arranges. Modern houses surrounded by flowers line alongside the main road. The Day of the Village is organised on the closest Sunday to 8th September, – in the remembrance of the breakthrough at Voronyezs, which resulted in the death of 103 Hungarian soldiers, became heroes.
